VISA INFORMATION

DISCLAIMER: Please note that ZedMedics is not responsible for the outcome of your visa application. The decision to grant or deny a visa rests solely with the U.S. government. We provide necessary documentation and guidance that may help you through the process BUT approval of your visa is beyond our control.

The most common visa applied by students and graduates seeking to complete electives in the USA is the B1/B2 visa.

For electives, the B1 visa is permitted by the State Department. However, remember that this is not always the case. Applicants have been called into second screening and immigration officers have questioned the validity of this visa class for electives. Be prepared to articulate, explain, and show the immigration officer your intent is just for the electives (and you will not receive any remuneration for it). We will be able to provide you with an immigration letter from the hospital agency stating your reason for traveling to the US and how long your elective will run. Please be advised that this letter does not guarantee your visa being approved as there are many components involved in applying for a US visa.

The State Department website has the following information regarding the B1/B2 visa

B1: Business associates, travel for a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention,
B2: tourism/recreation-non-scientific/business purpose.

The B1/B2 visa is usually issued together but it is advisable to Mention the B1 class when applying.

Important Tips:

  1. the B1/B2 visa class only permits you to stay for six months. The B1/B2 visa class does not permit any rotation over six months.

  2. All activities must be unpaid and you cannot receive any form of payment or work under this visa class.

  3. It is advisable to stay less than six months at all times and extensions may be sought but may jeopardize your future travel to the US.
